Agent Email is purpose-built for AI Agents to automate how email is received, sent, and managed. It abstracts complex bidirectional email infrastructure into out-of-the-box Skills, so your Agent can handle multi-turn email conversations like a human without complex setup or even owning a domain.

How It Works

The operating model of Agent Email is straightforward. It forms a closed loop around two core stages: inbound receiving and outbound delivery.

1. Inbound Receiving: Capture Incoming Messages Based on Real User Behavior

When downstream users send a new email to the AI Agent mailbox or reply to an existing one, the system performs fully automated processing at the infrastructure layer:

  • Automatic thread recognition: the system detects the relationship between new emails and historical messages, then accurately groups them into the correct global Thread.
  • Direct Agent consumption: the inbound gateway converts complex email entities in real time into structured plain text and event streams, allowing AI to immediately read clean conversation history out of the box.

2. Outbound Delivery: Build Reputation Through Two-Way Interaction

When the AI Agent finishes reasoning and needs to send or reply to an email automatically:

How to Use

1. Skill

You can open the CLI or the Skill documentation to learn the feature in detail, or use the quick installation guide to install the Skill in one click. Note: store the generated key in a secure place.

You can follow the quick guidance on the page to complete the initial setup. Once setup is complete, you can use the Skill to send and receive emails.

01 Configure domain (required for sending and receiving) Verify your sending domain, or directly use the shared sending domain provided by the system.
02 Create API_USER (required for sending) Create a dedicated API_USER for the Agent to use when authenticating email sending requests.
03 Create mailbox (required for receiving) Add a dedicated inbound mailbox to receive and aggregate emails from clients.

2. Mailbox

The platform supports creating inbound mailboxes with your own domain. The selected apiuser will be used for replies sent from that inbound mailbox.

If you do not have your own domain, you can create the mailbox with the platform's shared domain. In actual use, the shared domain provides the same functionality as a custom domain.

When creating an inbound mailbox, you can also choose to forward received mail to a specified email address or URL. Note: forwarding and inbound routing are not interchangeable. To read Threads through the Agent, you must configure an inbound mailbox.

3. Threads

After configuration is completed, the email address usually becomes active within 1 to 2 minutes.

Once the inbound mailbox is active, the system starts recording incoming and outgoing email activity. In the list, you can locate the specific Thread by inbound mailbox or correspondent.

Thread details are available, including message content and participating addresses. Attachments must be downloaded and viewed through the Skill.

Note: the system automatically groups related emails into a continuous conversation Thread. Identification is based on unique message markers such as Message-ID, In-Reply-To, and References.


FAQ

Q: If I send email through a shared domain, can the recipient reply directly to that email?

A: Yes. The shared domains provided by EngageLab support complete two-way routing. After the AI Agent sends email through the shared domain, the end user can reply directly in Gmail, Outlook, or similar clients. The inbound reply stream is then captured efficiently and securely by the system and accurately grouped into the corresponding Thread.

Q: What is the difference between Agent Email threaded replies and normal email sending?

A: A normal sending interface creates a standalone new email in the recipient's inbox, which easily breaks the conversation. When you call the sendReply Skill, the system automatically injects RFC-compliant In-Reply-To and References headers into the SMTP envelope. This ensures the AI Agent reply is tightly folded into the same historical conversation Thread on the recipient side. This two-way interaction pattern is closer to real human behavior and helps improve long-term domain trust and inbox placement.

Q: If I start a new project with a shared domain, can I switch to my own domain later as the business grows?

A: Yes. Smooth and seamless upgrades are supported. In the early stage or testing phase, you can use the shared domain for zero-configuration cold start. When the business grows and you need branding or channel isolation, you can bind your own enterprise domain in the console at any time. After the upgrade, the system continues to provide the same high-deliverability stability and delivery optimization.

Q: How can I quickly install and activate the Skill?

A: You only need simple copy and paste. The process is:

  1. Click the quick guide button and copy the generated prompt. The system automatically copies a dedicated instruction containing configuration guidance and technical documentation links to your clipboard.
  2. Open the AI Agent tool you are using, such as Cursor, Claude Code, or a custom Agent chat window, paste the prompt, and send it. After reading the prompt, the Agent downloads and configures the Skill automatically according to the instructions.

Q: Which mainstream overseas AI platforms or Agents are currently supported?

A: Agent Email already provides native adaptation for several mainstream overseas AI developer tools and Agent platforms, making it easy for global developers to integrate directly. Supported platforms include Codex, OpenClaw, Cursor, Claude Code and Hermes. Coverage across global AI ecosystems will continue to expand.
